Normal for Petunia isn’t normal, she is super special!
Petunia has major skeletal defects. Some from birth some maybe from injuries. Her spine is twisted and looks separated. She also has an extra vertebrae. All of the spinal issues has thrown the rest of her body off. Shoulders and ribs are misaligned. And there is some nerve damage. Her patella are separated in both legs but that’s not a huge concern.
Her last X-rays, in December, showed a possible enlarged heart. Because she stressed so much during this visit we could not have confirming test done. Since then she has shown no symptoms of a heart issues and is doing well.
Petunia is now going to therapy twice a month. She gets acupuncture and a massage. She is still working with her wheels. We seem to have plateaued at the moment, a lot of that may have to do with not being able to be outside. Most days, she is fairly mobile scooting along and climbing on dog beds. She does tire easily.
We recently noticed that her left front leg seems shorter than but measurement show that both legs are same so it is believed the alignment of her shoulders is the cause.
She takes 2 different supplements recommended by the vet. In order for her to maintain quality of life she will need to continue therapy.
She is aware when she needs to go potty and tries hard to get out of the way she has even been seen trying to lift her back end. She will never be completely house broke but tries her best!
Despite all her issues Petunia is sweet and cuddly! Loves other dogs and food. She has come so far in her time in rescue.
Petunia will always need special care and needs a home that does not have small children or dogs that may play too rough! If you think that you may be the forever home that Petunia needs you can fill out and application on our website.
If you would like to help Petunia on her journey you can sponsor her for as little as $1.
