Want to Adopt?
Why should I adopt a Pug from Rescue?
Because there is a wonderful, loving Pug waiting for you.
By adopting from the Pug Rescue Network, you are helping to save the life of a Pug in need. Pugs purchased from a pet store, puppy mill, or backyard breeder perpetuates the puppies-for-profit industry.
Rescue organizations are not against all breeding. There are a few high quality conscientious breeders who understand the need to continue the breed without contributing to the countless number of Pugs killed in shelters each year.
All dogs receive the following care prior to adoption:
- Comprehensive examination by a licensed veterinarian
- Vaccinations (Rabies-1 year, DHPP)
- Fecal Test
- Spay or Neuter - unless there is a significant health risk with the Pug.
- Heartworm test and treatment (if necessary)
- Heartworm preventative
- Treatment of illnesses, medical problems, malnourishment, etc.
- A diet of quality dog food

PUG RESCUE NETWORK ADOPTION PROCESS
BEFORE YOU BEGIN: RESEARCH & APPLICATION
Adopting a Pug is not a decision one should rush into. You are considering a commitment that could last as long as fifteen years or more. Your Pug will become a member of your family and an important part of your life. No breed is right for everyone. Learn as much as you can about the Pug breed to see if the breed characteristics will be a good match for your personality and lifestyle and also read about rescue dogs.
We ask each person interested in adopting a Pug to begin by completing an adoption application. The application asks a lot of questions to help us ensure a good match. You must answer all questions, use as much detail as you like. You also must include your physical home address, NOT a P.O. Box. We will not answer any questions about our available Pugs until you have completely filled out our adoption application and a copy of your vet records have been received. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
Though you may think our adoption procedures are a bit stringent, please remember that many of these are Pugs that have already been separated from a home, and not always a loving one. Some have been through the frightening experience of being in a shelter, or worse, a commercial breeding facility. We try very hard to make the adoptions successful, and make the best possible decisions for the Pugs. Our adoption process helps to assure us that you are ready for the commitment and responsibility of adopting a rescued Pug into your family. Our top priority is the right Pug into the right home. Adoptions are not completed unless everyone is happy - you, the Pug Rescue Network members involved, and most importantly, the rescued Pug.
STEP 1: APPLICATION REVIEW
Once you have sent in your application, it will be reviewed by a five-person committee. This process typically takes 4-6 weeks to complete from the time we receive it, sometimes longer if we have additional questions, our volunteers schedules and sometimes a little shorter if we happen to have extra time. Understand that each person reviewing your application is a volunteer donating their time to review your application. Once this step has been completed, you will receive an official letter via US Postal Service regarding the outcome of your application. If you have been approved, we will be contacting you to DISCUSS YOUR APPLICATION (STEP 2). Calling us to get a status will only slow down this process.
STEP 2: DISCUSS YOUR APPLICATION
After you have received your Application Approval Letter, you will be contacted by a Pug Rescue Network representative via e-mail or phone to discuss your application and specifics in regards to the personality you are looking for in a Pug. You can expect to answer more questions regarding your application as well. It is at this time where we will discuss with our available Pugs to determine which Pug may be a match for your family.
Please note that we do not operate on a first-come first-served basis. Our Pugs are placed into the most suitable home according to their temperament and needs. It is not abnormal for multiple families to be interested in the same Pug.
STEP 3: HOME VISIT
A home visit will be scheduled. This home visit provides us an opportunity to get to know you and for you to get to know more about us.
Once the home visit has been performed, and its outcome approved, the Pre-Adoption Meeting would be scheduled by the Adoption Coordinator.
STEP 4: PRE-ADOPTION MEETING
This step will require you to travel to the Detroit area of Michigan. We will not transport or ship Pugs to you. The location of the Pre-Adoption Meeting will be set by the Pug Rescue Network Adoption Coordinator. This could be at a local Petco, the foster home or a local Pug Rescue Network event. This meeting will require your entire family (including any current dogs) to be present to meet and interact with the Pug.
Please note: We have the right to decline your application at the pre-adoption meeting or an any point in the process if we feel that your home would not be the best suited for the Pug you are meeting.
STEP 5: ADOPTION DAY
An exciting day for all of us! Please be prepared to bring your new Pug home. You will need to have a list of supplies already purchased to make the transition as easy as possible for your family and the dog. Dog Bowls, food, treats, crate (if necessary) and a leash.
It is at this time you will be signing the adoption agreement and paying the adoption fee. Adoption Fees range from $75-$400 based on age. All Pugs have been brought up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and treated, health exam performed, fecal tested, and spayed/neutered.
Now you and your Pug get to begin your life together. We will continue to follow up with your progress through email or phone conversations. Our members will continue to have an active interest in the Pug we have placed in your home. You should feel free to contact us at any time with your questions and concerns.
Please remember that the adoption fee is not for purchase of a dog, but rather to cover the medical cost of all dogs in our care.
