"Gracie Mae"

Gracie Mae came into our lives on Saturday, May 10, 2003. I called her my early Mothers Day Gift. I knew the minute I sat Gracie on my lap and showered her sweet baby face with kisses I would be her forever mom. It was on our trip home that Gracie was given her middle name "Mae". She became mamas "Sweet Baby Girl".

Gracie Mae ruled the house when she came home. Our oldest daughter Amanda nicknamed her the "Princess" because in my eyes she could do no wrong. She was 100% mamas girl!!! She came to us with a stuffed donkey that made Hee Haw noises, that was her favorite toy!! Whenever Buster touched her Hee Haw, she would hover over him till they were through and then quickly pick it up and take it to her crate with many other items she felt were hers. In the evenings when I would finally sit down, Gracie’s place was laying on my chest in the crook of my arm, everyone knew this!! If Buster or MoJo were on my lap she would climb over them and weasel her way to her spot. Gracie was sick when she came to us with Hookworms and a Bladder Infection. Every morning she would have to have her bedding changed because it would be soaked. I didn’t mind and she knew I was never mad at her because I always told her it was alright and I was going to make her better. I was able to bring Gracie to work with me when she had recheck appointments with the vet, my boss just loved her!! And didn’t mind me bringing her. This I will be forever grateful for. There was never really a need for a leash with Gracie, when she was with me she never left my side. When she was at the office she was either in her crate behind my desk or under my desk at my feet.

As time went by and many weeks of antibiotics and rechecks it became apparent that there was an underlying problem with her, as she was still unable to hold her bladder and water would go right through her. We were referred to MVS and Gracie was diagnosed with an abnormal blood vessel that was diverting her blood away from her liver which is called a Liver Shunt. We decided to go through with the surgery that was recommended for Gracie so we could make her better. She had the surgery to correct the liver shunt, but after a couple days she started to have post surgical problems, her body was not taking the new blood, it was causing her to loose her balance and have seizures.

We lost our sweet baby girl on Monday, July 28th, 2003. That morning as we sat with her I once again showered her face with my kisses and told her how much I loved her and that she would have no more pain. As she drifted off to the Rainbow Bridge I told her one day she and I would be together again and she would again be in the crook of my arm and I would be kissing her sweet baby face again. I always told Gracie she and I were going to grow old together, this was not to be. Even though Gracie was only with us a short time she stole our hearts!! Gracie you are forever loved and missed!!!
