George Nicholas was a rescue transfer from a Humane Society in Michigan. He was examined by our Veterinarians the day he arrived to our rescue. Unfortunately, his exam wasn't good. It was determined that George had a number of health issues, some genetic defects. To start, his trachea was so narrow that it made it very difficult for George to breath. You could compare the feeling to breathing through a bent straw all day long every day of your life. This issue caused him to have an enlarged heart because it had to work extra hard to pump oxygen through his body. At the first sign of excitement or stress, you would hear his wheezing as he struggled to breath. It was so difficult when he was excited, George's tongue would turn gray from his body's lack of oxygen. You couldn't even do routine basic Pug maintenance on George because he would have a hard time breathing. George also had an aggressive tumor (cancer) on his rib cage. George also had some serious eye issues. He could only see shadows as he had a glaucoma in one eye, and a cataract in the other. He could never rest comfortably because he was always wondering if something was coming up behind him. Every time we would pet him, he would have a slight twitch of hesitation.
It is with a heavy heart that we helped George pass on to Rainbow Bridge. It was a very tough decision. We had a number of long discussions with our vets to determine the best course of action. This, unfortunately, was the best thing we could do for George. There was no medical procedure or medication that could have helped George live comfortably. With that, we gave George the best 30 days of his life. We spent lots of time hanging out and showing him how much we loved him.
Thank you mom for making Georgie his rescue fleece blanket. He loved it.
