How to have a successful, meaningful relationship with your Pug...
A lot of Pug owners have more then one Pug and with that comes behavioral issues. With multiple Pugs in our homes things can start to get crazy if you don't have control. All Pugs have different personalities and with that can come trouble. When you get multiple Pugs in a household the pack instincts get stronger. Some Pugs are laid back while others are strong willed social climbers (always looking for the next opportunity to get higher in the pack). If you have a strong willed Pug you have your work cut out. You need to stay in control at all times.
Learn how to stop:
Fighting between Pugs
Potty accidents in the house
Your pug from running away (i.e. Bolting out the front door, Slipping Harnesses)
Other unwanted Behaviors
As Volunteers from this rescue we are always looking for ways to keep Pugs in their original homes. There are many reasons why Pugs end up in rescue. The top reasons are mostly behavioral issues that could have been avoided if people knew how to prevent them and how to correct them. Just like kids, dogs don't come with owners manuals. Most of the time with kids you just have to live and learn from what others tell you. Well same goes with Pugs sometimes you have to learn from other people. If your open minded and willing to learn you can have a successful relationship with your Pug.
We have all been in the same situation. We love our Pugs to death and don't want to hurt their feelings.
We let them....
Sleep with us
Have free run of the house
Free feed
Walk where ever they want
Get Obese
The truth is we are setting our Pugs up to fail. When Pugs are allowed to make their own decisions they end up making the wrong choices. It's like asking a five year old human child to make their own decisions on what they are going to do. The Pugs end up paying the ultimate price. They loose out on wonderful relationship with their family. They end up getting re-homed because you don't know what to do anymore or how to fix it.
We are constantly sending the wrong signals to our Pugs.
| Allowing them to: | Pug reads it as: |
| Sleep in the owners bed | They are your equal. |
| Free Run of the House | Cool... I get to make my own decisions today. |
| Free Feeding | Wow... I can eat when I please. (no need for mom or dad) |
| Walking where ever they want | I am in
control of this relationship. (mom & dad you do what I say) |
| Get Obese | No need to work for anything |
| Doggie Doors | Another decision I get to make. |
